New Grant Opportunity Through West Liberty University

The Sprout Fund is hosting an information session about their grant opportunities on Monday, May 13 from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm at the West Liberty University Highlands Center.

Sprout catalyzes small-scale and first-time projects that create more relevant and impactful connected learning opportunities in Pittsburgh, Southwestern Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and Ohio.

Hive funding supports connected learning experiences in the greater Pittsburgh region that help prepare tweens, teens, and young adults for college, the workforce, and civic participation. Grants are available up to $15,000. Eligible projects primarily target youth older than age 10.

Spark funding supports projects in the greater Pittsburgh region that help children develop hands-on skills and digital literacies by expanding their capacity “to do” as well as “to know”. Grants are available up to $15,000. Eligible projects primarily target children age 10 and under.

Signing for the Stage

Theatre de Jeunesse, a youth theater group in the Parkersburg area, is providing a workshop training for signers and other theater organizations focused on the special techniques for signing for stage performances. Theater performance signing is a special art, and is very different from signing for a single speaker. If you are a signer or are involved with a theater organization that really wants to make your work accessible to everyone in your community, this workshop is for you.

“Sign Language Interpretation For The Stage” Workshop Invitation

Theatre de Jeunesse, a local young adult theatre arts organization, invites Mid-Ohio Valley sign language interpreters to attend a workshop entitled “Sign Language Interpretation For The Stage”. The workshop will be held on Saturday, July14, 2012, at 1:00 PM on the campus of Marietta College at the Friedrich Theater in the Hermann Fine Arts Center, 500 Butler Street (corner of 4^th and Butler Streets) in Marietta, Ohio.

The subject matter covered will be the differences between interpretation for the stage versus other types of events, and ASL Theatre Certification information. Workshop presenters will be Janelle St. Martin and Brianna Butler who have a combined total of over 30 years experience in interpreting for stage productions. There is no charge for the workshop and light snacks will be provided. Workshop attendees will be offered a discount coupon to attend the performance of the musical comedy Once Upon A Mattress that evening to observe stage interpretation.

This workshop is presented with financial assistance from the Ohio River Border Initiative, a joint project of the Ohio Arts Council and the West Virginia Commission on the Arts.

New 2012 Annual Grant Application on ORBI Grants Page

The application form for the 2012 annual grant program is now on the Grants Page.

There is one major change this year. Based on the evaluation following the 2011 grant panel meeting, we have added an optional page that you can file with your application.

If you believe that the income and expense categories on the project budget page need more explanation, you may include a one page budget narrative to your application. This page will not count as one of your five support materials pages.

The budget narrative will be limited to one page, so you need to keep your explanations brief.

ORBI Public Grant Panel Meeting March 1 in Parkersburg, WV

The public ORBI review of grant applications for the 2011 annual grant program will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, March 1, 2011 at the West Virginia Central Credit Union at 809 Division Street, Parkersburg, WV.

If you are considering applying to ORBI for one of our annual grants, attending our annual grant review is the best way to learn how to present a successful application. The review is open to the public, and decisions on all grant awards will be made publicly by the end of the afternoon session.

Theatre de Jeunesse Holding Auditions for Les Miserables School Edition

ORBI’s former Web site host, CityNet, has messed up and the address “orbi.org” doesn’t work for the Web site right now. We hope to have this problem fixed in a day or two. In the meantime, you can come directly to the site using “www.orbiartsnetwork.wordpress.com” or “www.orbiarts.org”.

“orbi.org” started working again on 12/23/2010. If you are still having problems getting to the Web site using that URL, please contact the Project Director at 304-655-8255.
